The Banqueting Hall is an impressive room. Its ceiling is panelled in large squares of oak with faces of the sun in gold at the corners. There are two fireplaces in the room, one oak and one of Hopton Wood stone. The Conference Hall was originally the Council Chamber, until a new and much larger chamber was constructed in the Town Hall Extension. The Hall contains an interesting oak screen and canopy as well as a gallery. The Lord Mayor’s Parlour has a polished oak dado about five feet high. On the walls hang portraits of public figures and paintings which have been presented to the authority.
