Grey College was recently described as “a vibrant learning community, where students can grow, learn and develop”. The values we hold to be important are: academic commitment and excellence, tolerance, breadth of interests, and a desire to contribute to the wider life of the College and the University.

A glance at this website will, I hope, convince you that Grey is very distinctive – even in Durham, which is noted for the variety of its colleges. Our community consists of undergraduates, graduates, senior members, visiting Fellows and former students. We have a strong “brand image”, emphasised by our recent full grant of arms and we are very proud of our Phoenix symbol. We are a College in every sense of the word – not just a place to eat and sleep.

Conferences

Grey College is named after Lord Grey, Britain’s reforming Prime Minister and of “Earl Grey tea” fame. From Grey College you can view the majestic Cathedral of Durham and adjacent to the College is the Great High Wood and Botanical Gardens.

The undeniable splendour of Grey College is the perfect backdrop for conferences boasting suitably equipped meeting and conference rooms for eight to 120 delegates.
