Overlooking the Millennium Square, this building accommodates the Lord Mayor, City Treasurer and City Council. It was officially opened in 1933 by the ruling monarch of the time, King George V. The exterior features two giant gilded owls (an established symbol of Leeds) and roman columns at the entrance. Inside the hall, there are several great rooms such as the lavish Lord Mayor’s room, lined with English walnut and Algerian marble. Meetings of the full council are held in the grand council chamber. Guided tours of the Civic Hall are available at specific times.
