Luxury is in residence at the Phoenix Park Hotel. Guests of the downtown hotel in Washington, DC appreciate the elegant touches and Old World European charm infused into every aspect of our historic hotel, which has a long-standing history in the Capitol City.

Harry Wardman and Thomas P. Bones constructed the building at 520 North Capitol Street, NW. It opened in 1922 as the Commodore, a working-class hotel that was convenient for travelers coming in from the recently opened Union Station. At that time, the hotel had 140 rooms, each with a small twin bed and shared bath. Private baths were added in the 1940s.
In 1982, the property was purchased by Irish-American entrepreneur Daniel J. Coleman, who closed it for two years to undertake a massive transformation. After an extensive renovation, which included modernizing the entire building, reducing the room count to 120, and adding on the ninth floor, the property re-opened in 1985 as the Phoenix Park Hotel. In 1997, an elegant new wing was added in keeping with the original architectural style of the building, and bringing the total room count to 149. Mr. Coleman named his well-appointed new hotel after Phoenix Park in Dublin, which is one of the largest walled parks in Europe, comprising over 1,700 acres. The park is known for its lush gardens, wild deer, Wellington Monument (similar in style to the Washington Monument), home of the Irish President and the official residence of the American Ambassador.
